In January 2009, the Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce
answered the call to "do something" for local businesses struggling with the
growing apprehension regarding the economy. A proactive plan has been compiled
to partner with member media partners to encourage consumer confidence and
regional expenditures.
Q. Why is the Buy in the Blue initiative critical right now?
A. Daily headlines discourage the general public,
and consumer confidence is low. Regional businesses and members alike have sought assistance
and leadership from the Chamber, and we responded with promotional dollars earmarked from our
capital campaign for destination marketing. The Blue Water region stretches from the Thumb to
the Bay and from Capac across the bridge to Sarnia. We need to patronize these businesses in
our community, so they are able to stay and operate here.
Q. What is the Buy in the Blue initiative intended to accomplish?
A. Buy in the Blue takes a proactive role in targeting
consumer confidence, supporting regional businesses and driving business for the Blue Water
area. The message is good news, encouragement and promotion. A campaign is being launched
beginning with the Buy in the Blue public awareness campaign throughout the year in addition
to an e-coupon program.
Q. What are the primary messages of the campaign?
A. By supporting regional businesses, we can help
them succeed and encourage further investment in our community. We have a wide array of
businesses in the Blue Water area: services, amenities, healthcare, dining, shopping,
arts and entertainment. We have more choices than ever in the Blue Water area, and dollars
spent in our region support our schools, public safety and roads as well as stimulate the
economy! We must also dispel the myths that local costs more or that there are better
deals outside the community.
Q. Anything else?
A. The Blue Water Area Chamber of
Commerce is a partner for local businesses in good and bad economic times.
Our goal is to partner with our membership to create a sustainable business
environment. While the campaign may not change the world, it is an active step
to support regional businesses and stimulate the economy. The campaign encourages
the community to support the variety of retail shops, restaurants and amenities
in our region. Additionally, the e-coupon program allows Blue Water Area Chamber
of Commerce member businesses to promote goods and services. So join together and Buy in the Blue!
